How to create tight double buns

That title can take you to a lot of places. This blog is sort of about exercise after all. One part exercise, nine parts goofiness. But today, it's all about hair styling. So think hair double buns, not the other kind.

I thought it would be easier to show you how I create my double buns and get them to stay solid during a marathon. So here is the masterpiece, take 500 (I wish I was kidding). My husband watched it and said I was too enthusiastic, but he works at a bank and maybe would have preferred a pie chart about double buns instead. Either way, it got too dark outside to do take 501, so we're stuck with too enthusiastic and super awkward.

Double buns, just another tool to blow away the competition.

And here's Journey of a Canuck Mom on the Run, another super tough lady sporting funky double buns.

Isn't she adorable?!

What is your favorite hairstyle for long runs?

  1. Cute vlog - I like seeing and hearing the bloggers that I follow. I like the single bun high on my head and tight, tight, tight! I especially like it for summer - if I wear a ponytail in the summer the sweat and movement create a huge web of tangles. Buns keep me tangle free!!!

    1. I've wondered if running is causing me to lose some hair because I pull mine so tight for running. Running-pattern baldness??

  2. LOL nice vid! I am boring I guess...I just throw it up in a ponytail. Happy Friday! :)

  3. Thanks for sharing! That is exactly how I make my bun! I just do one though. I have found that if I put my hair up while it is wet, it stays put even better. I have super thick hair, and I actually have to use only one ponytail holder. But of course I have extras on my wrist during a race.

    1. And putting it up wet probably keeps your head cool too!

  4. Your so cute. I love your double buns. I think they might make me crazy though. I have to have my hair like WAY OFF MY NECK. I get hot! But you on the other hand look adorable!!!!

    1. Yes, if hair is touching me in too many places, I go crazy too! This makes a good case for shaving my head.

  5. OMG, that video was AWESOME!!! I laughed so hard in a couple of places!!! Ha ha ha, my coworkers probably think I'm crazier than they already think..eh.. Any way.. I have long hair and have tried pony tails - awful after 6 miles, one braid - slapped me on the back of the neck the entire race, and now I'm running with two braids. Seems to work but I haven't run a half marathon wearing 2 braids, yet. If all else fails, I'm pulling a Yo Momma!

    1. So easy, yet so tangly! I usually only go double buns on special occasions because it requires some work. Single tangle-tail is my everyday style too.

  11. Very fun! Cool seeing you "live" after reading your blog for so long. lol Anyway, this post was very reassuring, as I was actually happy to see that when I did my daughter's double buns (completely unrelated to your double buns, by the way), I actually did them right. lol

    1. I love double hair buns on kids. They are so adorable! My daughter rarely lets me style her hair.:( She's so independent.

    2. I know the feeling. The buns was a short-lived trend, and then I was allowed to french braid her hair once, which is a shame. It turned out so cute and - heck - it worked at all! I was very excited by that. I could never french braid my own hair. Now, though, she has opted to cut her hair shorter. Maybe that should tell me something. :)

  12. That was so funny!! But badly timed...I literally just came out the bathroom having cut my hair, I decided it was too long. Now it's too short for the double bun!

Please can you do something next for the other type of double buns. These need more help.

    1. I think if you run a bazillion miles it helps the other double buns.:)

  13. Oh my god, that is the cutest how-to video I've ever seen :) Although I don't watch that many. But you are adorable. Anyway, I prefer to wear my hair in a ponytail, because it's long and pretty and I like showing it off :) But for warmer races, when the weather is warmer (and I'm going to be sweating), I put it in a single bun. I also generally wear a visor or hat (for longer races). For shorter races, I wear some type of non-slip headband with my pony.
