Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait

Workout: spin class, where we climbed hills for an hour. I think I sat down twice during the class. At least that saves the lady biz from that awkward, I-rode-a-bike-too-long feeling.

Plus one BodyPump class. It's been a few weeks since I've done a strength training class. And, um, yeah, that's why people do those regularly. They pack the same amount of moves into one class that it would take me five hours to do on my own. I'm slowness.

Then I mowed the lawn, which reminded me that just when you think the mosquitoes have begun to die out for the season, they resurge in a major way, all around my ankles.

All of that exercise business makes the time move faster until I receive my package of Oiselle goodies that I ordered over the weekend. Another case of my husband saying, "Do you really need more running clothes?" And me saying, "Huh, what's that behind you?" Classic distraction technique works every single time.

Another distraction is good eats. Sometimes I refer to my own blog for recipes. Goofy, yes, but I have a horrible memory. I have a horrible memory. Wait, did I already say that? This time I needed to remember how to make zucchini/squash fries, and after the second round with them, I'm still in deep love. Directions are here

Also we had a local election yesterday. It's so freaking important to me to vote in even the smallest elections. There were only two items on the ballot, but my kids agreed that it was worth the stickers and  lifesavers they got in return for walking in with me.

My daughter took this picture before they told us that pictures weren't allowed in the voting area. Oops. I guess we need to work on rule obeying. Maybe the people I voted for will do something about people/rule-breakers like us.

We also made a stop at Sam's Club, which recently started carrying giant bags of sweet potatoes. I'm seeing sweet potato fries in our very near future.

To balance out those veggies in the Sam's Club cart, I created a little thing I like to call The Best Thing Ever. It's the last of the ice cream (better if still in the carton) with a few Oreos thrown on top. I had to buy those Oreos to conduct scientific research for a friend. They needed to know if Oreos were smaller in other countries. Diameter in Colombia: 1.5". Diameter in United States: 1.75". Smallerness in other countries confirmed, and now we eat.

Do you hate mosquitoes more than any other insect? If not, don't even answer that in the comments.

What are you eating for dinner tonight? I need ideas, e-people! If it goes with sweet potato fries, I'm in.

What's your favorite dish to make with sweet potatoes?

Have you measured your Oreos lately? If you live in another country, what size are your Oreos?

  1. Wow, what a day! And what a great example you are voting with your kids. I'm big on the voting no matter how small it is too. Women fought hard for that right and the least we can do is honor them by doing it!
Dinner tonight is scrambled eggs. I'm lame.

  2. I agree, I vote on everything. In the UK, women threw themselves under racehorses so that I could vote, it would be incredibly rude to abstain!!

I think I'm making zucchini fries for dinner tonight, thanks for that. Apart from that I have NO idea. I have a load of leftovers from dinners this week...it may be a leftover potluck!

And I'll swap your mosquitos for spiders of any size. Give me a mozzie any day.

    1. Is using that excuse every night on summer break too much? Because that's kind of what I did.

  4. I'll probably get blacklisted for this, but I don't like Oreos...or sweet potatoes.

If you're still reading, I DO love the looks of those squash and zucchini fries. I kept scrolling back to look at them. (is Food Porn a thing?)
Also, not sure if your patriotic shirt on voting day was on purpose but it was a very clever choice.

Oh! And mosquitos : the worst

    1. Because you told me about sending in registration to save money (which I am doing today), you are forgiven for not being in love with oreos and sweet potatoes. But let's not bring it up again.

  6. I do hate mosquitoes. I must say that I hate Mormon crickets more (yup, that's really the name: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon_cricket). But maybe I should change my mind on that because at least crickets don't pass on West Nile virus.

Sweet potato fries are the best! I've also made sweet potato falafel - really good: http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/baked-sweet-potato-falafel-recipe.html

    1. I should be using pinterest more. After they put me on a waiting list to join in the beginning, I've held a grudge against them ever since.

  8. That is the healthiest Sam's club cart I have ever seen. I seem to always get distracted by the five lb bag of Hot Tamales or giant box of cream buffs. The hubby and I are trying to decide if a) two people justifies belonging to a bulk store and b) if the answer to a is yes then do we go Sam's club or Costco. These important life decisions are hard.

    1. Usually we have fifteen bags of chips to go with it, but I promised myself I was only getting a few things. That store is worse than Target in sucking benjamins right outta my bank account.

For dinner tonight it's cucumbers will dill sprinkled on top and a baked potato with chili and cottage cheese on top. I eat sort of weird.

    1. If by famous, you mean super nerdy, unpaid blogger, then YES!:) Cottage cheese is the food that I always overlook, but it's such an awesome tasting add-in.

  11. OMG I love Oiselle!! I just got notice that my order shipped from them too, so exciting. Hahah. And funny about the Oreos being different sizes, although not very surprising.

I hope you love your Oiselle! I've been wearing mine every day since it came. Can't take it off.

  12. Mosquitos are the worst. Along with flies. Flies are a close second. So, when we have a normal year here, weather wise, we don't have flies or mosquitos. I know, right? Except this summer it's been hot (like ~90) and humid (for us - like 65% humidity, which is not Southeast Humid, but still nothing to sneeze at).

But then, I deal with a crapload of traffic (45-60 minutes each way to work) and a big mortgage, so I feel justified in complaining when we get handed these less-than-stellar summers.
