Endorphin Warrior bracelet review and giveaway

When we're in the middle of a long race and all of our body's resources are being drawn into the constant pumping of arms and legs, our brains aren't fully functioning. And if your brain is fully functioning at mile 20 of a marathon, I want to meet you and steal all of your secrets to awesomeness.

Back to not being able to use our brain bits. This limited neurofunction (kind of sounds like I'm not just making this up as I type) is why the mantra is so key to distance, or any, running. We need that one word or phrase that we can keep repeating to ourselves over and over when we get discouraged or need help clinging onto our pace for a few more miles.

For my race this weekend, I had a little mantra help because I wore my Endorphin Warrior training bracelet. I picked the word "believe" for my bracelet because I've noticed that is often where I falter in a race. I don't believe that I can run those last six miles of a marathon as fast as the first twenty, so I don't do it. But I really feel like believing it will make it happen, eventually.

Believing that I can.

My other mantra is "you're capable of more than you think you are." But based on my past mental performance while racing, nine words strung together might be pushing it for a mantra. So I love the simplicity of these one-word bracelets for a physical reminder of the mantra you want to stick in your brain when the going gets tough. And that's the one consistent factor I've found in racing -- the going will get tough.

Now for a little more info about what you get with these bracelets.

  • Leather strap
  • Nickel-plated metal tag
  • Snap closure

Simple, which is why I like them.

Here are some shots of the bracelet after I wore it in my trail 21K this weekend. I like that it breaks in and gets more character as you wear it.

  1. I LOVE these bracelets, i've been trying to win one for ages. I would pick 'Strength' because it reminds me of my fave bible verse about being able to do everything through he who gives me strength.

  5. I would like the word "believe." I often doubt what I'm capable and surprise myself when I do things I never thought I could do. I want to tackle marathon #2 in 2013 and I think this would be a great motivator! :)

  22. I'd pick 'Relentless.' I don't have a mantra per se while running, but I do carry on a conversation in my head that is heavy on: "You got this, keep going going, X more miles. That's no big deal. You got this..." And so on. Relentless just seems like the overall theme... even when I am not always feeling what I tell myself. :)

  52. I'm not entering the contest, but I did want to say that I really like your compression socks. What brand is that?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Those are the CEP compression socks in white. I actually can't wear those anymore because the feet are too big/baggy, and they make me lose toenails during marathons. But they are very compressy, so I wear them for recovery still.

    My mantra: "Don't Stop"

    And then it turns into:

"Don't stop, don't stop the feet
Won't stop, won't stop the beat

    don'tdon'tdon'tdon't stop the feet
    can'tcan'tcan'tcan't control the feet
    pe-pe-pe-people in the street
come on everybody and move your feet!"

I'm nuts. Running just makes it worse.

Oh, and I totally would go for "WARRIOR" on my bracelet!
