Mississippi River Marathon 2013 results

P.S. I ran a marathon today. It started in the middle of a field in Arkansas and ended in small town Greenville, Mississippi.

Since I'm posting from my phone, I'll wait to give you the deets later.

In short, I am slowly becoming the queen of just barely missing my Boston qualifying time. I wish I was making this stuff up. My final time today was 3:40:12. Really.

On the brighter side, I won 2nd place in my age group. That's my first time ever placing in my age group in a marathon and my first ever running plaque. I think my husband will want me to hang that above our bed or right by the front door so he can stare at it all the time.

And my family was there to cheer me on, which meant so much to me. It's been a while since they've made it to a race, and it made me so happy to see them there.

Last, I never stopped running. So there was none of that if-only-I-hadn't-walked-through-that-water-stop business. I honestly felt amazing during this whole race, but even though the course was flat, the wind was kicking. Somehow my Garmin read 26.59 when I was finished. It was off from the first mile, but I know that doesn't matter in the context of qualifying for Boston. It sort of made me feel better though.

Here I am crossing the Mississippi River. The bridge was gorgeous!

  1. I did not realize that you were running in Greenville this weekend. That's where I lived for 29 years before moving to Chattanooga. Congrats on placing in your age group! That is awesome!!!

I cannot believe you missed it now by 12 seconds!!! It's fairly infuriating at this point I would have
To say! I would probably have a temper tantrum right there at the finish line like a HUGE baby buT I'm sure much more mature than me!
Congrat on another great time and awesome run!!!

  8. Sorry you just missed your qualifying time, sounds like a great run, though! I had an infuriating experience along those lines: I'm qualified to go to Adult Nationals in figure skating for the first time this year (it's based on a minimum test level, not a competition result) and told everyone I was going, but didn't realize the registration date was quite early and missed it! But next year you will get to Boston and I will get to my event, too, OK?

  19. Congrats on winning 2nd. It's good to see you're sticking to stashing items in your bra for runs! :-) I'm sorry you didn't BQ again. Just doesn't seem right on some level!

    1. Thanks! Old habits die hard, or in my case, never die. Now my bra is the trash can for all of my used gels that I feel bad throwing on the ground.

  21. 1) congrats on 2nd in your age group, so freaking cool!!

    2) I LOVE hammer gels, they are my fav to eat during marathons

    3) I LOVE how your family was there on the course to support you. My parents went to Rehoboth to see me run the first time I qualified and it meant the freaking world to me. Legit still almost makes me tear up each time I think about seeing them on the course at mile 20.

    4) I will see you at Boston 2014, no question (OK actually I probably won't because I might sort of retire after Boston 2013, we'll see...)

  22. OMG!! You will get the BQ!!! It will come. Hey, come on in October and join me in Toronto. Flat course and we can try to BQ together.:) I have that fear of missing the time by seconds and an epic running partner would be awesome. We could show the bun love and have fun. You would get to meet my hubby, kids, and cool Canadian family too.:) Seriously though, you have got this. That time for the marathon was awesome and a 2nd place in age group makes you a ROCK STAR in my mind. Keep on inspiring!!!

  23. Nice going on the 2nd place in your age group. Very cool... and congrats on your great finish too. Even if you didn't BQ you ran a great race!

Hope you are having a relaxing recovery.

  24. I can't believe those 12 seconds! But congratulations on the second place finish, that's awesome. Next time will be your BQ for sure!

  25. Congrats on a rocking time and 2nd in your age group. I have to say, I agreed with the time changes made by BAA, however, I do think they should still give the 60-second cushion on them. Bottom line: You clearly, clearly, have a BQ in those legs and next time you will get it.

  26. Ahhhh!! I can't believe you were so close. Just know you REALLY did make it and that was just an EXTRA long course. Very frustrating. I am going to email RD about that. Everyone I know who ran it said their watch was long too. I know that GPS watches are not exact and when I run a race I know I will be running a little longer than my watch says but this course went beyond the usual "extra" mileage.

You must have been right behind my friend Tish. I saw two ladies behind her (I kept giving her updates on where she was position-wise) and I had no idea it was you. Small world!! Congrats for a great race through some pretty brutal wind! :-)

    1. It's really great to know that it wasn't just my imagination on the long course. I agree that the watches aren't exact, but I've never had a course clock that much overage, and especially not from the first mile. Glad you're going to email them about it. I talked to race people there who just shrugged it off, but maybe more people telling them about it will make them pay attention. If we both run next year, let's definitely try and find each other at the finish! I'm rooting for you in the marathon next year!

  28. Second place? That is so awesome! Congrats! And then the flip side, darn about no BQ. Super argh. Isn't it the best when the family comes out to cheer you on. I cry when I think about my babies being on the course yelling "go mommy go".

  29. 2nd place in AG? Fan-freaking-tastic! Congratulations, Lisa! And a BQ is in your future, hands down! It's only a matter of when (I figured writing "time" wold get a lot of groans)

  30. Are you serious?? 12 seconds? And a long course, plus wind? So, so frustrating. But sounds like you ran a fantastic race, feeling good the whole time. And 2nd place is awesome!! Congrats to you!! You'll get the BQ, I know it.

  31. Ok sucks about the BQ but AMAZING about the second place finish!!! Woohoo! I know you'll get that BQ.

  32. Now I see why I didn't recognize you at this race! No pig tails! That was a dead giveaway at Mercedes!
